The Saturday Post

I love microwave ovens. Why do I mention this? Because a friend of mine thinks it’s weird to always cook in one. He says ‘you have a stove why not use it?’ Men – simple, silly creatures who know not what they say. Yes, I have a stove and yes, I do know how to cook. But if I used the stove I would have to clean it – see we’re I’m heading? Why make life any more difficult than it is? And yes, I have heard the microwaves from said oven could, maybe, possibly, perhaps kill you eventually but here’s the thing – we’re all going to die. Why sweat over the logistics of death?

By the way, don’t you just love how ‘they’ bring out reports announcing things like too much coffee/chocolate/alcohol will kill you this week and then the next week they say make sure you have enough coffee, chocolate and plonk. Amazing, Grace. Everything will kill you or cure you depending on what day in the week it is. Back to ovens, I believe the normal standard one is evil. Why? Well, it’s the cleaning thing – that’s just wrong. Then there’s the danger thing. When I used to work as a chambermaid in London in my crazy years, now I merely just insane, every morning we would have to deal with this big arsed Aga oven. It was a left over from the days when the hotel used to be an elegant

house. The kitchen was enormous and in the basement – as were our digs (living quarters). Years ago it would have been where the servants hung out and bitched about their employers. Nothing changes much does it? Anyway we all took turns cooking on this monster to fulfil the ‘breakfast’ part in bed and breakfast. What do Poms (English) eat? Very fried stuff. Fried bread, eggs, fatty bacon and – gag – baked beans. I would rather eat dirt than baked beans. As long as brekky was swimming in oil they were happy. Tourist – Aussies, Yanks etc – used to request ‘no grease please.’ The thing with the Aga was if you were very tired – translation = hung over – in the mornings, you would end up with some nasty burns. I still have 2 deep, long scars on my forearm from an Aga fight. I actually tell anyone who asks that they are from a knife fight. It generally confuses people. Anyway – my point? Stoves and ovens are dangerous. All cooking should be banned unless it’s in restaurants. Just a thought…

So, I am a woman of the times. Yes, I could have been a pioneer woman if there was no other option open to me. I greatly admire pioneer women who slogged out new lives, centuries ago. What crap they had to go through. Imagine wearing long skirts and corsets as you worked to build a house, plant a crop or travel long distances in a wagon while dealing with kids, cooking and illness. Amazing stuff. I would never want to do that as I suspect there were no microwave ovens back then. I don’t understand why people deliberately try and re-create those times – usually for TV. When you sign up for a TV pioneer gig you must know that it’s going to be hard so why then go on TV and cry and complain like a ninny? I only watch one reality TV show – Survivor. I like the manipulations and backstabbing that goes on - people’s thought processes fascinate me. In saying that, I would not go on Survivor as I don’t sleep on the ground or scrounge for food or go to the loo in the bush. I am a woman of the times. I don’t pee in the great outdoors and I squat for few people. I am thinking of having that made into a t-shirt.

I've never watched Survivor but it's been around long enough for me to get the gist. Imagining you on it...thanks, I can now go about my day with a grin that will leave everyone I encounter wondering.

I watch survivor. I also watch Big Brother if there's nothing else to do--housework doesn't count.

I would imagine, AJ, you must have been quite impressed with Johnny Fairplay a few years back? The guy who lied about his granny dying to win a reward challenge?

He's coming back, you know...this Thursday!

AJ, I'm with you on the baked beans. Can't stand 'em. The only 'beans' I eat are peas and peanuts!

AJ, I'm hooked to your blog. You have a way to say the most outrageous things and make them sound so logical I completely agree with you. I'm a woman of my time too. Where on earth do you find these pictures? Adorable.

BTW thanks for the chat of last night. I'm glad I was able to make time and stop. I also want to tell you how much I loved your Mad About Mirabelle. With a story like that and your amazing witty voice you are slowly and surely converting me into an erotica reader. Moi?? Come on. I always went for sweet romance, but I guess that was before I met and mingled with some good friends on EC/CP chat, the frogpond, and Emmeline's saga.

Okay, I'm weird. I like baked beans. Pork n beans you can feed to the dogs. But baked beans with brown sugar...good.

And I love microwaves. Only two things should never be cooked in a microwave: bacon and water for tea. Water heated in a microwave tastes funny. *smods*
