Ramblations…

Ramblations – to ramble on about nothing much – source Amarinda Jones Word Dictionary.

The boxing kangaroo is a national personification of Australia, frequently seen in popular culture.

The image of the boxing
kangaroo Jack is known since 1891. Fifty years later it became a national symbol in the Royal Australian Air Force. The design was inspired by a travelling boxing show which had kangaroos boxing with men. During 1941 boxing kangaroos were stencilled on Australian fighter aeroplanes of the No. 21 Squadron RAAF based in Singapore and Malaya.

The boxing kangaroo was the symbol for the successful 1983 Australian challenge for the
America's Cup. The Boxing Kangaroo flag, a red-gloved golden kangaroo on a green background, was flown from Australia II.

So the Olympics begin. I know absolutely stuff all (nothing) about sport. Zip. Zilch. Nada. But being a proud Aussie I support our team and whatever placing they get will be beaut (fantastic). Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi!

The tax man cometh

I hauled myself off to have my Tax done. End of financial year, for those who don’t know, in Australia is June 30. Tax has to be done before October 31 normally. I say normally as I am sure there are all sorts of loopholes. Generally, if you have to pay something to the tax vultures because you had the initiative to get off you arse and earn extra money, then you usually have until March next year. I never pay them before that. Stuff ‘em. Anyway, I went and saw – let’s call her Elvira – and she did my tax. I can do it myself but it would take a whole exhausting day of me swearing and slapping my head as I do the calculations whereas Elvira can do them in 20 minutes. I say 20 minutes but I am usually there for an hour or so because she likes to chat. So it’s kind of a social call. Last year, I mentioned on the blog there was great drama in Elvira’s work place due to someone being accused of taking someone else’s pen. I can only hope it is as exciting this time.

Ever noticed how someone can lose the plot if they think their cheap, plastic, looks-like-every-other-pen-in-the-office has been nicked? I used to set next to this woman who used to label all her cheap, plastic pens with her name. Here’s my take on it – someone nicks a 30 cents pen – ok – go to the stationary cupboard and get a new 30 cent pen. What’s the point roaming around the office checking to see if someone has your labeled pen then confronting them with theft? Oh sure, it’s entertaining for your colleagues but frigging insane.

Update - with Elvira, bless her cotton socks, for an hour and a half chatting about nothing in partucualr. Tax done. No accusations of pen theft this time. So it’s a short but sweet blog tonight…heading out in 45 minutes…just enough time to do a blog run. Have a good one.

A Micah Blue moment – released 3rd September 2008

“Gang way!” Micah yelled as she charged down the steps toward Ned. She was dressed only in a pale pink lace bra and satin slip. “Ugly, pissed off man behind me!” She yelped as she dodged a blue fireball and ran straight into Ned’s arms. Her ankle was killing her but the pain of whatever this man planned to do with her trumped that. She pulled at Ned to make him move. “No time for heroics, Zorro. This guy is not a happy boy.”
Ned picked her up in his arms and raced with her to the truck, narrowly avoiding a bolt of blue from hitting them.
“What are you sapphire-girl woman or something?” Ned opened the truck and pushed her inside.
“‘Looks that way,” Micah scooted across the seat to allow Ned to hurriedly slide in beside her.

When will this dictionary be available at Amazon? I'm sure I need one. Thanks for the trivia. You know how much I love useless information. I'm sure this will come in handy at some point. The Mounties? Yeah, I could probably do something with that.

Where ya going?

Love the roo images. As to the pen thing? My dh has a neat trick. Us a fountain pen, but when you hand it to someone, keep the lid. Anybody puts that in their pocket they're going to regret it. Me--I'd do it myself, so I'll stick to the ones from the stationery cupboard.

Must get me a boxing kangaroo. Might be handy.

Tax time is April here and we always waiting until midnight to send off. Screw em.

Love the excerpt and can't wait for Micah Blue.

Ah, the Olympics. The opening ceremonies is my one time to turn on the TV. I shall keep out an eye for the boxing kangaroos! And cheer them on.

I am so intrigued by your excerpt! Can't wait for it to come out.

Pens... well I don't like anyone using my pen because everyone holds their pen at a different angle when they write which is why pens leak. So if someone takes my pen--it's theirs!--I don't want it back. I guess you could say that I don't share well when it comes to pens.
