She who dares wins…

So, at work yesterday I emailed the head of the corporate beast that is lucky to employ me for a donation to Relay for Life. I was warned not to because he's very, very, very, twelve times over too busy and too, amazingly, stunningly, oh-my-god-wait-a-second-he-could-be-god important to deal with the likes of me and I'd made a HUGE mistake that could get me in trouble and uh-oh spaghetti-o.

Well, I look at it this way, the Jones family motto is ‘if you don’t ask you don’t get.’ Besides I asked him the same thing that I asked everyone else and that was to donate $5.00 to our team sponsorship. Get it? Everyone else. He’s just a person – an everyone.

Did I get money? Yeah baby. She who dares wins.

Friday – how I adore thee…

It has been one of those weeks that if I was given the chance to relive it again as a do-over I would give it a swerve. Don’t you hate weeks like that? It’s been non stop drama. So I plan to slump on the sofa shortly, with a bottle of chateau plonk 2007 and ignore the phone and maybe watch Gone with the Wind for the 37th time because frankly, other than the ridiculous obsession with the mealy mouthed Ashley, Scarlett knew what she was doing in life. As for the whole Rhett thing – even though it ended without the audience knowing what happened – and I refuse to consider the crap ‘Scarlett’ movie as the sequel – I always believed that Rhett would come back to her because kick arse women rule and strong men can’t resist them regardless what they may have said at the time.

There was a report on the news that alcohol will give you cancer. Jeez, eye roll, what doesn’t? My mother ate healthy, lived healthy and died of cancer. Yes, that makes sense doesn’t it? Everything has the potential to kill you. It all, in my less than humble opinion, comes down to fate and fate can be an utter bastard. So I believe in living and will continue to do so regardless of what is the ‘new’ thing destined to kill you.

Work has been dreary. I am working with a woman who is about to retire and has been in the same job for 100 years, okay, maybe I exaggerate – 85 years - and I look at her and think “knock me on the head if I ever get to this stage in my life where there are rules on rules about how rules should be ruled.” Scary. She is also incredibly patronizing and I don’t think she gets that she is. The common complaint is she treats everyone like a 6-year -olds. I am basically ignoring her – doing the nod and smile, blank look thing, because I think she is just a sad, pathetic woman who has no other life and the only life she has ever known in ending. Besides, life is too short to deal with the likes of her. I have to ask – is work life? I respond – no bloody way. Work to me is what you do to have a life or to pay for the life you have. Yet some see it as stimulating and important. Sure, at knock off time I am incredibly stimulated and pay day is exceptionally important to me – other than that, I turn up and generally try and fly under the radar so I can get through the day as quickly as possible. If it wasn’t for personal emails from the likes of Ethel, Nola and Katie I would be asleep at my desk…oh sure there’s work to do but one has to be in the mood doesn’t one?

Dreamslordy I have had some long, difficult dreams this week. You know the ones – everything is a problem, you get lost, you’re late, you’re running, you’re fighting someone off – and yet I believe for all this exertion I should have lost more weight. It just doesn’t seem right to me.

What the hell is wrong with the government of Burma? Have your politics, your principles and your beliefs but for god sake save your people. Don’t be fuckwits. Haven’t those people suffered enough without the posturing of fools?

Are you looking for a hot, new book to read? Tempting Tess by Regina Carlysle has been released from Ellora’s Cave. It’s part of the Oh Yum series. Check out the blurb and excerpt below and then I know you’ll want to click on the cover to buy. This book is guaranteed to singe your eyelashes it’s so hot.

Tempting Tess

The blurb...

When forty-five year old widow, Tess Garrity decides it’s time to re-evaluate her very stale life, she rents a charming cabin in the mountains of Ruidoso, New Mexico to think things through, little expecting her entire life is about to take a drastic turn. Oh yeah, she’s very drawn and more than a little sexually turned on by the sinfully handsome man who lives next door.

Daniel Rios is captivated by the stunning older woman who is renting his cabin just next door. She is sweet, funny, and sexy enough to make him yearn to fuck her. He wants her more than his next breath but his first order of business is getting rid of an unwanted houseguest. For Daniel, it is mission accomplished as he moves in on Tess, tempting her to take another chance on love-with him. It’s a naughty, edgy, seductive challenge he is fully prepared to take.

The excerpt be warned this is an adult excerpt

He was the hottest man she’d even seen. Jeff had been a handsome but rather ordinary man. Their life had been one of friendship and comfort. This moment with Daniel in the middle of the night was altogether different from anything she’d ever experienced before. Intimacy was ripe in the air and Tess wanted to shy away from it. She was afraid of what this man did to her. She’d been married to the same sweet, gentle man for years but she’d never felt the sheer magnetic pull that she felt with this stranger.
It scared her to death!
The cabin was shadowy, the lighting soft and it looked like Daniel would be here for the night. What on earth was she going to do with him?
Well, actually she could think of ten or twenty things she could do with him but, uh-uh, not going there. She wasn’t one of those aggressive women who could just walk up to a guy and say, oh, um, by the way, you’re the hottest, sexiest man I’ve ever met and I want your cock plunging into my pussy. Right fucking now! I want you to bang me into the mattress until my head threatens to explode. I want you to lick my cunt until I drown you in my cream.
Shit!

Terror zipped through her veins at all these crazy thoughts. She was a mother, for Christ’s sake. She was at least a dozen years older than this hot stud. He’d laugh his ass off if he only knew what she was thinking.
Drawing her control around her, Tess struggled to regulate her breathing and went to Daniel who stood looking down into the fireplace. Tiny sparks were catching the dry wood, burning it into a delicate, cool blue mingled with hot yellow. Shadows from the growing flames seemed to dance along his torso like a sensual touch. Flicking, teasing flesh that was bronze and hard and so very tempting.
Suddenly he looked over at her as she stood there holding a wine glass in each hand. His eyes were hotter than the fire he’d built. Tess stood motionless, unable to speak.
“I want you to know something,” he said. “I met Hillary a year ago. She was vacationing here with friends and I took her to bed. For some reason, she got it in her head that I wanted more. Wanted a relationship.”
“You didn’t.”
Daniel shook his head and made a sound of disgust. “Hardly. She’s not my type. Good for a one night stand but that’s about it with a woman like that. She’s a party girl and I’ve had my fill with it. Outgrown it. That’s not what my life is about anymore.”
Tess pressed a glass into his hand, sensing his need to talk. She was a good listener. Always had been. “You told me this evening that you’re a man, not a kid. You’re right about that.”
He speared her with a glance then took a sip of the chilled wine. “Got that right. I’m into women not girls.”
“I see.” Tess looked down into the fire, watched it catch and grow. Burning, fragrant and clean.
“I doubt you do. She showed up here unexpectedly, making demands, talking about a future.”
“What happened?”
Daniel shrugged. “I told her I wasn’t interested in something serious with her and that I wanted her to leave tomorrow morning. I mentioned I’d met someone else and she got pissed off and left. It’s a good thing. Right after I told her to leave, she grabbed my cock through my jeans. She started stroking me, tried to get me hot for her and I pushed her hand away. Everything can’t be solved through sex.”
“Some things can,” Tess whispered, almost to herself. Her gaze shot up when she realized she’d spoken the thought aloud.
His eyes narrowed then focused on her lips for a split second. “Tess.”
She shook her head and rolled her eyes. “God! Dumb. I don’t know where that came from. “
Daniel took her glass and set it, along with his on the mantle. He turned to face her squarely. His hands, those marvelous hard hands, settled on her shoulders. A calloused thumb traced the exposed line of her collarbone and a shiver of awareness sank deep into her bones. “You can say anything to me. Anything at all. Ask me about the woman, Tess. Ask me about the woman I met. “
She drew in a shaky breath as expectation hummed in the air. She shouldn’t ask because she already knew the answer and this answer could land her in a world of heartache. She knew what he was going to say and a whip of fear mingled with anticipation lashed wildly through her body. It couldn’t be. Things like this didn’t happen to her. The flesh between her legs throbbed like mad, moisture pooled, thick and heavy in the crotch of her panties. Muscles, little used over the past few years, pulsed to life.
“Okay. Who is she, Daniel?”
“I told her I’d met you, Tess. I told her I’d met you.”

May I recommend, before I sashay over to the sofa with my wine, that may kill me, that you check out Anny and Kelly and the good folks blogs to the left. They are all amazingly talented.

A whole lot of nothing....

I am exhausted. I was up all night writing lines on a blackboard with chalk –

People are not that - but who

I will not split infinitives

I wrote them over and over. What? I have been doing edits. Yes, I have driven my editor to drink and chocolate over them, once more. In my defence, I would again like to point out that it’s all Captain James T Kirk's, from Star Trek, fault. I loved the original series when I was a kid. I grew up on “To boldly go where no man has gone before.” So it’s his fault that I split infinitives. The who/that thing is my own and I will get it tattooed on my forehead to remind me. Once again – apologies to my editor…I hope you dry out soon. Writers may write the words but Editors make them legible….then the cover artists give us a hot cover and the publisher does the rest and we just sit and try and look like we know what we’re doing…it’s all smoke and mirrors being a writer.

I sent an email at work today – a work one about work stuff. This is unusual for me as I tend to use work email for personal stuff. But there is it – proof I do work at work when I have to. Anyway I wrote the line “please see ass attached.” Email back was “what ass and where?” Now I am blaming this on the fact that I have to write in American spelling for my books. Okay, it’s a crap excuse but there it is. I emailed the recipient back and said ‘unable to provide ass at this time.” She emailed back and asked for a raincheck and I agreed.

Also at work...I have been in chuck out mode. I am extremely ruthless when to comes to culling stuff that does not belong to me. I also believe paper records that are 10 years old and have stuff all to do with anything must go. I am like the Terminator at the moment. Ethel is similar but she throws anything and everything out because she does not like to file. Any office she works in will not have files when she works there. Why? She shreds them. Why? She does not want to break her nails – I kid you not. She is also very good at looking vague when someone asks her where the files are…'what files?’

It was freezing in Brizzie this morning. Okay, maybe not freezing cold as you would know it but bloody cold and we all whined about it. We are very lucky. Our sub-tropical climate is exceptionally good and remains pretty fine all year round. But every time winter approaches and it gets the slightest bit nippy – we whine and put on 5 layers of clothes. It’s not like we’re not aware that it’s autumn – it’s more that we refuse to believe it. Brisbane is in the Sunshine state – in Queensland. We banana benders expect sun and sun means warmth.

Speaking of luck - I am incredibly lucky. I had my ultra sound thingy today and the lumps were just cysts. Whew. I must say though that I have never had so many people wanting to look at my breasts – and not for reasons of passion. One of the doctors said in an annoyed tone, “Hmm, you have a large amount of breast tissue.” He looked quite cross about it. I said something along the lines of “terribly sorry and how inconvenient for you.” Another said, in a vague tone – while I was topless - ‘And what do we have here?’ I burst out laughing. What do you think these are mate? And if you have to ask you ain’t touching me. Anyway, I am okay – but many are not and we need to remember that. Once more – I urge anyone who has not had a mammogram and is putting it off to go and do it. It could save your life. On the way out I donated money to the Cancer fund. I just want to believe that even a small amount may help someone somewhere. My mother died of cancer. I want to believe we will cure it one day. Think about donating to a cause you believe in – even a small amount helps. There but for the grace of fate go I…

I have made a list for when I go grocery shopping next. This is big for me. I never write a list as I choose to believe I have this fabulous ability to remember what I have run out of at home. I don’t. I usually end up buying stuff I already have – like last week – and I’ll eat the same thing – tuna - over and over again to use it up. This is okay with me as I live alone and can do what I like. I expect if I was living with someone they would be a tad pissed at tuna every night. But then again, I would have them trained to accept my way or else. I am a simple creature. My word is law at Chez Amarinda…I am a bit of over tuna though.

Well, that’s it – nothing happening of any note in my life but I have managed to waffle on about the amazingness of nothingess once more. Check out the blogs to the left. There are many talented people with stuff to say – like Anny and Kelly.

A quick peak at what I was editing last night – Penned Again…coming soon from Ellora’s Cave…adult excerpt
It was such a long time since Arlo Ripley had felt the closeness of another’s skin again hers. She curled against the warm, male body and gave herself up to the dream she was having. Her hand touched the hard, hair roughened chest and luxuriant heat radiated through her arm and down her body. It was heaven to touch him once more. She had missed him so much. Him? Penn? Her eyes snapped open in shock.
“You!” Arlo jerked her hand away as she looked at the naked man in her bed. There was just enough light to see the deep green eyes of Pendleton Ripley. He had not changed one whit. Same dark, wavy hair, kissable mouth and a body to collapse against in need and hunger. And he was naked. Whoa! Too many memories there. She rolled away as fast and as far away as she could.
“Hi honey, I’m home,” Penn murmured as he reached out and pulled his wife back against him.
“Holy fucking hell, what are you doing here?” Arlo struggled to break free from his hold. To do that, she had to touch him and he felt so good to her Penn-starved senses. Six months without touching him had been torture.
“I came to see you.”
“Oh piss off.” She slapped his chest in derision.
Remember you hate him and he is a lying swine. Okay I can do this.
Penn’s finger gently traced the curve of her lips.
“I missed you, my beloved.”
Oh crap. Penn was using “beloved” in that deep, husky voice he knew turned her on. Arlo closed her legs together tightly. He is back for a reason and that reason may not suit you. Be strong and don’t get sucked in again.
Arlo Ripley had endured six of the most horrible months of her life. It was like she was on a continual mood swing and it was all because of her husband—the demon. I married a demon. It still seemed bizarre to her. It was more like something out of a 1950s schlock black and white movie. But it had happened and it still irritated her no end that Penn had not told her the truth. Honesty was as important as love to Arlo. That he did not tell her everything smacked at her self-esteem. During their separation she had railed against him, the unfairness of it all and wondered if love was really worth the hassle. Sure, she was lonely without Penn but at least she knew where she stood.
“What do you want?” Though his cock pressing against her thigh was a very good indication of where his mind was at. It was so long since she’d had sex. The feel of that life force pushing against her made her remember the last, delicious time she had touched and tasted him. She still remembered the feeling of her eyes rolling into the back of her head as she came. Then Penn had gone and broken her heart. Bastard. Well not again.
“I’m naked, you’re naked—what do you think I want?” Penn smiled at her knowingly.
I think I really need you now and I hate myself for being so weak.
“I think you’ve run out of clean clothes and want me to do your washing.” Arlo always slept naked. She liked the sensual feel of the fine cotton sheets on her skin. However at that moment she wished she had on a granny nightdress as her bare skin so close to his was like holding a lit match to paper. Penn could make her hot with just one look and he looked mighty good to her famished senses. She ran her eyes over the length of his lean, strong body, stopping at the black, elaborate phoenix tattoo on his lower stomach. It had always turned her on. Her mouth watered. He still had the ability to take her breath away.

The seven deadly sins and why I believe you should do at least four of them…

I have never really understood why the seven deadly sins are so bad. Says who? Who made the list? And was the person who decided what was evil so perfect and pure? If so they were boring and missed out on a lot of fun. This is how I see the seven deadly sins. I am personally going to continue doing one to five with the occasional six. As for seven, I don’t believe in envy.

1. Lust – is good. It takes so many forms. You see the man of your dreams and you want him. Have him, enjoy him. You pass a shop window. You see them. The most beautiful pair of shoes. You salivate. Can you afford them? Yes. Get them for you deserve a treat. Lust is good. Lust is life. Go out and get some today.

2. Greed – to me there are varying scales of greed. The all out I must conquer all at the expense of others is wrong. However sometimes just wanting more from life is considered greedy. Why? People should dream big and aim high. Greed is good as long as you do it for the right reasons.

3. Sloth – okay doing stuff all and being a slob is not on. Taking the weekend off to veg out with a book and watch TV to relax is a type of sloth that I think is okay. It’s a good to slump on the sofa with a glass of plonk and zone out for a while.

4. Wrath – I personally love wrath. I do it very well. There is nothing like venting one’s spleen when you are pissed off. It’s cathartic and I say wrath is not a sin if it’s done well. So consider wrath. A good stoush with someone or letting off steam clears the air and your sinuses.

5. Pride - I don’t get why pride is bad. We should be proud of ourselves and our achievements as well as that of our family and friends. Good self esteem and confidence are important. They get you through life. I once failed a high school assignment on a book called Johnny Tremain – (anyone read that?) because at 13 I would not agree pride was a bad thing. We should encourage pride not consider it a failing.

6. Gluttony – Who hasn’t over indulged on Tim Tams? Or, drunk the whole bottle of wine as to leave some would be wasteful? Yes, yes, I know what you are saying – bad Amarinda. And you are possibly rightish. Gluttony at the expense of others is wrong. But that odd Tim Tam blow out is okay in my books.

7. Envy – I don’t envy anyone. Why should I? I love me and I consider myself pretty damn good. Sure I could be like others and be thinner, prettier, smarter, nicer but then I wouldn’t be me. Envy? I don’t have time for it.

So I have made my own list of what I consider sins.

Bigotry – who is so perfect that they can pick faults with others because they are different?

War – are we ever going to stop fighting over land and religion? We need to get a worldwide collective grip and just live without bickering over differences.

Apathy – If we don’t care about anything that happens then how can we expect things to get better?

Ignorance – pretending not to see does not absolve anyone of guilt.

Bad manners – what the hell happened to please and thank you and excuse me?

Lack of responsibility – It’s not my fault. Then whose is it when no one is to blame?

Body odour – please use bloody deodorant.

So ends the sermon. In lieu of a collection plate please donate to your nearest Cancer research appeal. Some addresses are listed below. Let’s give back some of our good luck to others who need it. Don't say I'll do it next week. Do it today and karma will smile on you...would I lie?
