People tell me...

So, I’ve decided to change my fitness stuff around and just concentrate on running. No boot camp. Just plain old guts for effort, determined running. I’ve decided that’s the best for me to shift weight and build muscle tone. Running is hard. I hate it. People tell me I’ll get sick of doing it. Other people tell me they’d give up after a couple of days running.  More people tell me they lack the determination to get up early in the morning to do it. While there are those who tell me they couldn’t do it alone.

If I listened to people I would never have done a quarter of the things I’ve done in my life.

People who tell you stuff are out there everywhere. Watch out for them.

It's not me...it's you...

Everyone but me and thee are mad and thou are somewhat suspect….

My mother used to say that. Words to live by…

Do you have it in puce?

So, I got a new sofa and thought I’d sell the old recliner chairs. They’re in excellent nick but I just don’t need them. It’s part of my live uncomplicated approach to life. This would work splendidly if I was an uncomplicated person. But I’m a work in progress along with being just plain swell. Anyway, I decided to place a free ad in the local paper and sell them. At first, no one called. I was told to be patient that this was the tropics and no one rushed. At lunchtime the calls came in. What colour are the chairs? Dark red? I wanted puce. Are they leather? No. I wanted leather. They’re not leather. That’s a shame because I wanted leather. Build a bridge. Another said I have a 2 hour threshold that I can spend time seeing the chairs in. You need to be home now. My response? Ah, no. Then the ever popular you live all the way out there? Yes, I live the terrible 15-20 drive from the centre of Cairns. And the requests and question went on. Red chairs. After work. No, I don’t take magic beans. Yes, you’ll probably need a cut lunch and 17 litres of water and bus money tied into a knot in your hankie to get to my place. People. Odd.

Say what?

The things I heard today…

*At Stockland Shopping Centre, Cairns – one women to another about the royal wedding –

“Well, at least after the wedding she can get fat and not shave her legs.”

Ah, so that’s what marriage is all about.

*When I dropped by to say a quick hello at a very busy friend’s workplace -

“Yes I am busy but come in, sit down and I’ll ignore you.”

My response - “Just what a woman wants to hear.” Lucky I’m fond of him…

*At work, Friday arvo just before a long weekend when only 2 of us were left in the office with 20 mins before closing –

“Fuck it, let’s go now.” We went. I’m not silly.

My 76 year old father’s view on what the Kate – oops ‘Catherine’ Middleton will wear on the big day –

“A bikini would look nice.”

Hmmm…I don’t think so

Hoping you are the same….

Why can’t I have…

- freedom, equality, justice and free speech? It’s written in several revolutionary scripts and all the Superman comics.
- For all metabolisms to be created equal and none slower than any other so we can all get over the weight thing.
- the clothing size zero obliterated. Only the insipid and the vain are zeroes.
- For women to give other women a break. We’re supposed to be a sisterhood remember?
- All kids going to school with food in their bellies.
- Women in any part of the world free to dress, speak and act as they choose without fear of recrimination
- ‘squeee’ outlawed – it’s not a frigging word.
- the use of smiley faces on emails or edits or wherever to be only used after reciprocal agreement is reached between two parties
- those who whine that other people are ‘lucky’ realize luck is made and not given.
- Cancer and aids be a part of history
- some men thinking with their other brains
- those who kill for honour live with the fear that someone may kill them and see how honourable they feel.
- The end to organized religion. It’s been screwing up the planet since day dot.
- A cure for all forms of paraplegia
- A child proof cap that’s not adult proof either
- that we all have enough and start to give some back

And there’s so many more…
