Whiskey over the rocks...

I chatted, on the phone, to mate and US based author Anny Cook today.  Whenever I speak to the husky, smooth whiskey-over-the-rocks sounding Ms Cook, I see in my mind’s eye a sultry Ava Gardner who knows what’s what. We spoke about everything from conspiracies to politics, chooks to the weather, books to badgers…okay, maybe not badgers but I expect she would have an opinion on them. I like that. I like people who think outside the square and the conversation is not all about their books. Writers who talk only about writing does my head in. But, not so with the articulate Anny. Good convo mate. We’ll do it again.

Never heard of Anny Cook? Seriously? Well you should. Go immediately to www.annycook.com and buy a Cook book.

Wonderment…

I had two people respond to my general posts about sponsoring our team on Relay to Life where the donations all go to cancer research and aid for sufferers. Now, if you want to sponsor us – fantastic – if not – that’s fine. It’s your choice. In life we strive for freedom of choice, association and to be.

Back to those two people – the first sent me a long winded email which essentially said that all charities are bogus, cancer didn't exist because it's all a conspiracy and they sent me a bunch of internet links to verify what they were saying. I filed it under d for delete – your choice to believe, mine to delete. Then I had a person from the US who said they would not donate to help an Aussie – or any other nationality for that matter – because that took away from curing people of cancer in the US first. Riiight...clearly, global issue is not in this individual’s repertoire of thought.

Have I mentioned choice in this post? Why yes I have. Email me with neurotic ramblings? Save yourself the time and just delete after you write it – it’s just the same as me doing it.

Conspiracy theory or a load of bollocks?

I say bollocks to the explanation that indie authors and publishers get their books banned or pulled because paypal or credit card companies do not want consumers buying contentious stories yet you can buy dildos, cock rings, vibrators, anal toys and god knows what else with your paypal and credit card. I think it’s always easier to blame someone else. It makes the one who is placing blame look like they have no choice. The vast majority of people in the Western word always have a choice. If you object to something on moral grounds then say it. Don’t hide behind piss weak excuses.

I do believe that the rise of indie authors and publishers is pissing off some people. Too bad, so sad I say. Modern technology gives people – writers – choices. Be confined within the limits of what someone else dictates? Or do what you know and believe is right and in doing so avoid all the bollocks? And banning books or stories? Censorship only enhances the allure of those stories. Thank you so much for that.

Wherever there’s a will, there’s a way.
