Maid For Death - Review
Amarinda Jones knows what erotic romance readers want in a story, and this resourceful writer delivers. Ms. Jones turns up the hotness in this story, where flames can almost be felt coming from the pages. As one of the Tricks and Treats books, this story deals with Halloween. However, its imaginative originality makes the story one which can be enjoyed anytime of the year, as the holiday takes a backseat to the sensual plus fascinating plot. The lusty carnality is very descriptive, making something cold a must while reading every pleasurable second. With sex being the primary focus of numerous scenes, many of the pages feature continuously combustible heat in some form and leave you wanting even more. The story itself is absolutely delightful with not only intriguing circumstances but also three particularly energetic characters. From the opening paragraph to the last compelling word, MAID FOR DEATH is engaging with innovativeness plus an abundance of steamy sex. Each of the characters is colorful in their own way, and their lively personalities shine all through the book. Their witty conversations and thoughts will frequently make you grin and even laugh-out-loud, while their suggestive innuendoes may even leave you gasping. MAID FOR DEATH is red-hot on every level, as the spirited characters enjoy a rousing adventure packed with genuine feelings and rampant desires

Random Friday stuff….
I had to deal with someone called Jethro Thistlethwaite today. Who is he? No one important. Why do I mention it? I cannot, without thinking before I speak, say ‘th’ words properly. The minute I have to deal with someone with a ‘th’ name I am screwed. I just cannot get my name around it. I am all ‘ff’’ instead of ‘th.’ When I had to call him back, I did contemplate not ringing but it was an important call. When I had to ask for him by name I thought crap – 'crap' I can say but all those ‘th’ sounds in a row like that? It’s just wrong. I can’t whistle either. There goes my plans to go into show business – all ruined.
Got lost several times on the way to somewhere. I am someone who gets in the car, has a quick look at a map and then just drives. I quite like not knowing where I’m going. It’s the ‘I am mistress of my own destiny’ thing and normally this is not an issue as I get where I am supposed to. However I have a habit of rat running. What is that? It's going off the beaten track and shooting through neighbourhoods to find a quicker route. I always think if I go down this street that’s bound to get me there quicker. I did that today and ended up getting lost and having to go over the Gateway Bridge two times paying four lots of tolls. Head slap. Did I learn anything from it? Hmm…other than having more change in the car ashtray - no.
Vitamins – every so often I go through this vitamin junkie faze. I generally eat healthy and do pukeable exercise but I go through this “I must have more vitamins” thing. I always have vitamin e and c but I have these moments where I think – I should have more. Do I want to live forever? Hell no. I want to live as long as I can carry the plonk bottle from the fridge to the sofa without dropping it – two handed if necessary. When I am too doddery to do that – game over.'Absolutely obsessed with playing Matchbox Twenty's Greatest hits CD in the car at the moment…over and over. Passengers get in and go – “Oh for god sake – again?” My response - “You want a ride or not?” Why Matchbox Twenty other than I like them? Well, every time I get fixated on writing/finishing a book I always seem to play a particular CD over and over. When the book is done I think – I cannot listen to that again. Anyone else do that? Nah, you’re probably all too normal.
I am an extremely lucky person. I had two friends lie their arses off for me today to help me out. How fortunate am I? You cannot buy friendship like that. Of course, it has always been a reciprocal deal. We lie for each other. It is truly a gift to have someone to rely on or to be relied upon. May you all be as fortunate.
There is a new Tim Tam biscuit out! Woo hoo! I saw it on TV. Tim Tam Crush…mmm…I will be buying myself some of those tomorrow…for research purposes of course… Entries close at midnight EST on February 16 for the Eternally Yours contest. A Tuesday Tale…

**All written materials featured on this blog are protected under copyright. Any use of part or all of this material without the express written permission of the author is infringement of personal creative property and subject to legal action**
Now for something completely different...
“He sent me a bloody e-card!” Catarina still could not believe it. When she had opened her email this morning there it sat. Thomas has sent you a Valentine’s greeting.
“So?”
She looked at her best friend Suan in amazement. Surely she knew how she felt about stuff like this? They had been best friends forever.
“Well it’s hardly romantic.” Who sent Valentine’s by email?
Suan looked at her in sceptical amusement.
“I didn’t think you wanted romance from him.”
“Well, I don’t – it’s just annoying.” And confusing and a bunch of other things Catarina wasn’t about to admit to.
“How so?”
“It’s just so….him.” Thomas did stuff like that to drive her mad – making her feel things she did not want to feel.
“Yes, how cunning of him to be himself with you.” Suan scoffed cynically.
“Hey, you’re supposed to be on my side.”
“I always am.” Suan smiled at her words as if she understood the angst her friend was going through. “What does the card say?”
“Time to think about what you really want, darlin’- what does that mean?” Catarina felt her heart racing a mile a minute. Bloody man. She had known him all of two weeks and already he was screwing her life up. She wanted to live plainly, simply and alone. She wasn’t looking for a ‘Thomas’ in her life. But yet there he was – smiling, funny, sexy and for some reason wanting her despite all the roadblocks she put up against him.
“Clearly he thinks you know.”
“Cryptic bastard. I don’t need this.” Life was simpler when all you had to think about was yourself. This love stuff was way too complicated.
“I like him.”
Catarina rolled her eyes at her friend. Suan saw everyone in pairs.
“You would.”
“You need to be challenged.”
“I have bills up to my eyeballs, I cannot find a job I like and feel like I have continual PMS. I need no more challenges.” Besides he was way beyond her. Thomas was charming and persistent. She was cranky and resistant. They were too opposite to work out.
“I think she doth protest too much,” Suan murmured meaningfully.
“Oh don’t start quoting high school Shakespeare to me.”
“Just give him a chance.” Suan looked at her knowingly. “I know it’s scary.”
“I’m not scared.” I’m fucking terrified. The Thomas thing was not part of her plans.
“Uh oh,” Suan murmured as she looked out the window.
“What?”
“Thomas is here.”
“Oh crap.” Catarina immediately switched the radio off and ducked down behind the sofa, pulling Suan with her.
“You’re going to hide?” The amusement in Suan’s voice was evident. "That's your plan?"
“Sshh!” This always worked with persistent telecommunications salesmen and strange religious types wanting to sell her on the end of the world.
“How old are you?”
“Too frigging old to fall in love.”
Suan looked at her with delight.
“You’re in love?”
Head slap. Why did I say that?
“I’m talking hypothetically.” Catarina jumped as the door bell sounded.
“This is stupid.” Suan got up to answer it.
“Is she home?” Thomas asked.
“Are you home, Cat?” Suan looked directly at where she lurked.
Bugger. Catarina stood up from behind the sofa trying to look like it was a normal, everyday thing.
“Hello.” His eyes were locked on hers and she felt her knees go wobbly.
“Hi there.” Thomas smiled softly as he walked to her side.
“I’ll be going,” Suan said as she moved to the door.
“No need.” The door banged shut.
“‘Scared to be alone with me, darlin’?”
Because all she could see was Thomas? Because her need for him terrified her? What was there to be scared about in that? Everything.
“As if.” It was a lousy response but it was the best she could come up with.
Thomas took her hand in his.
“Excellent.” His thumb gently massaged her skin.
“What are you doing here?” More importantly what am I going to do?
“Giving you what you’ve needed for the longest time.”
Well, what an interesting couple of days. I have apparently pissed a lot of people off. Intentionally? No, but they have felt otherwise and I can’t do a great deal about that. I am, as I always am and I make no apologies or excuses for it, that’s why the blog is called “Go Ahead Give an Opinion” and not “Sit on your hands and say nothing.” It’s always been that way and will remain that way. I think Edith Piaf summed it up best with Non, je ne regrette rien. I remain, as always, myself.
Speaking of soap operas…I have not seen The Bold and The Beautiful for months…anyway, I saw it last night – I loved it. Nick (Ridge’s half brother) just had a baby with Taylor (Ridge’s ex-wife). The unknown-egg donor was – gasp – Brooke - she had been unaware who she was donating the egg to until the baby, naturally, needed a bone marrow transplant. Brooke, for Anny’s benefit, has been married to both brothers and slept with a cast of thousands, all of whom she ‘deeply’ loves. She currently appears maybe to be getting back together with Ridge (who just broke an engagement) although Brooke seems to be all gooey over being the egg donor to Nick, ex-lover’s, baby – so maybe something is going on there. Make sense? That’s the beauty of it – it doesn’t have to. I sat there and thought – How terribly uncomplicated my life is.

Romance writers – what’s the story?
Writers are strange. You knew that? Of course you did. Anyone that sits and transcribes the voices in their head while surrounded by empty chip packets, lets all the phone calls go to the answering machine and looks pissed off when you want to talk to them when they are listening to those voices is a writer. Of course I can only talk about romance writers. They are an interesting breed. I have been doing this writing gig for a year or so –and I believe I have formed a pretty good idea of the species known as the Romance writer…
Miss Me-Me – this is the writer who believes her books are the only ones worth reading and if everyone does not agree with her then she does not want to deal with them. She inflicts her staunch opinions about writing on everyone whether they want to know or not. She turns up at chats and does not share the limelight but tries to steals it because she refuses to see anyone else. You and I know its basic insecurity but they do themselves no favours.
Miss Vote for Me – they usually start off their infrequent emails with “I have just nominated myself to win best something-or-other-of-the-year award. Please go immediately to XYZ website and vote for me.” My understanding is other people should nominate you - but I could have that wrong. Also ballot box stuffing seems rather pointless to me.
Miss Insincerity – this one is tricky. They are ever so sweet to your face or via email but they have an agenda, like everyone else, except they coat it in syrup and try and camouflage it with ‘golly gee, aren’t I such a sweetheart’ words as they try to get their own way because no one would suspect a ‘nice’ person doing something bad. They are fascinating people because you can play them at their own game.
Miss Scatterbrain – this is the writer who wants everyone to do everything for her as she is ‘too silly’ to do it herself. It’s an excellent strategy as most people are inclined to help others. It’s a good ploy but it wears thin. Time for a new strategy I think.
Miss Deep Undercover – no one must know her real identity because it would literally ruin her life. I find it sad that people cannot be themselves and they have to worry about what others think. Everyone knows I write erotic or romantica and no one bats an eye. Shame other people do not have the same freedom just to be.
Miss Prude – She believes real romance does not involve sex. Everyone is a virgin and no body parts are exposed or named. Penis or vagina shall not be mention let alone acted upon. If she does name the dreaded parts they are called things like his manhood or love muscle and she has a honeypot. Anyone that calls them anything else is perceived as just writing ‘trash.’
Miss Deviant – will write anything to get a book sold. The more out there and on the edge it is she will write it, churning them out once a week sometimes. In some ways I admire these people as they have absolutely no scruples in their aim to get ahead. However, as we all know, you can only sell your soul so far.
Where do I fall into those categories? I’m a pain the arse. I do what I want and I am not the sort to agree that the emperor looks lovely in his new clothes when he is actually butt ugly naked. What is my point here? Well, it’s that writers are real people. They are flawed. They are no better or worse than anyone else, they just choose to put their thoughts into print. I believe the old adage that everyone has a story in them. If you are thinking of writing a book – do it. Those who write now are no more special than someone who wants to write. You may just get published. I did and I’m no great shakes as a writer but I write what I know and I write as I speak. Be yourself. Have a go, and, if you get a rejection – so what – it just means some other publisher is meant to have your book. Come and join the world of romance writers…it will put hairs on your palms.
Earlier in the week I mentioned a story with a sword – do you remember? Nah? That’s okay, I almost forgot I was going to mention it as well. Anyway, what it was - I once got a comment back from ‘someone’ – please note, not my Editor - suggesting that I needed to stop using words like – get ready to avert your eyes if real words upset you – covered? Okay – not to use words like penis, cock and vagina. Okay, said I, the erotic romance writer, “what should I use?” The suggestions that came back for penis were – sword or weapon. Now, I don’t know about you but do you honestly want to read about the hero plunging into the heroine with his weapon or his sword? That’s gotta be less than romantic and I don’t think it’s going to end happily. As for what I could change the dreaded ‘v’ word to, the person had no suggestions other than maybe not mention ‘it’ so much. Okay, so where does he plunge his ‘sword/weapon’ into or do heroines simply have no opening between their legs? Most confusing. And I point blank refuse to use the ‘c’ word as it’s just tacky and derogatory. But that’s just me. So, just to change things around in my books, I may try using –
“He plunged his pointy, hard thing into her pit of no return.”
Or
“She looked longingly at his pointy, hard thing and wished the bloody romance writer had given her somewhere to put it.”
What do you think? Any suggestions? H?

In the lap of the Gods…
I realized I’ll have to start thinking what I want on the cover of my latest contracted book – Penned Again. This is, of course, a good situation for a writer to be in so it’s not a chore. What’s Penned Again about? I have yet to write a blurb but basically it’s about a three hundred demon, Penn Ripley, who married a mortal woman, Arlo, without her knowing his real identity. Naturally she was a tad pissed off when she found out the truth. They split up. Six months later Penn is back. Why? It’s all to do with a bet. Now I just have to put that into blurb speak.
Anyway what makes a good cover? I have to admit I am pretty flexible when it comes to cover requests. You get this form that you fill out and send away. It’s all about what you would like and how you see your characters. You can ‘suggest’ how the cover could look but there are no guarantees as to what you get. This does not bother me as I have been very lucky with the Ellora’s Cave Cover Gods. I appreciate their time and talent. Am I sucking up? Nah, ‘cause I suspect it wouldn’t work anyway. So you send off the cover
request once your Editor has checked it to make sure you can spell your own name correctly and you haven’t written something dumb on the form – for example – for my last cover request, for Anyone But You, I wrote under “Possible symbols or items that could be included on the cover” – ‘a purple person.’ My Editor emailed back and said a ‘purple person?’ Being the wise women she is she had read the story and knew, that unlike author Anny Cook’s novels, there were no purple/blue people in the book. We did however wonder how a reader would look at the cover and think “The two people in a clinch I get, but the purple person watching them? What’s that about?” And how disappointed would they be if they bought the book expecting a ménage with a purple person and there were only two people and a purple diary. See, this is why writers need Editors. Writers are rarely ever logical.
So, after you make suggestions – half naked, fully naked, do what you like as long as he has a tatt, I’m sure I’ll love it – those are my real life, general suggestions to Coverland – you get the cover back. I have never been disappointed. But then I do not have a rigid belief in how my cover should look and therefore no other will do - foot stamp, angst ridden pout. I don’t have to have the hero holding the heroine on an alpine mountain top with the early morning sun highlighting, on a ninety degree angle, the blue-blackness of his hair while the heroine’s porcelain-like left hand is placed three-quarters, no more, along his muscular arm. Her fingers nails do not have to be persimmon pink, her bottom lip does not have to look like its quivering nor does her eye shadow have to be a particular shade of Rimmel - and how would I know if a cover model has size 34C breasts or not when they are squashed against the hero’s naked but not hairy chest? The doves that are flying in the background do not have to look like they were trained in the Himalayas by the monks, nor do the sheep you can barely see have to be merinos from the New South Wales Highlands. I do not ask for the impossible or improbable. As for the title and my name – as long as they are spelt correctly, I am good to go. Just give me a cover that people will be attracted to and want to buy the book. I
trust the Coverlandians to do this. They’re professionals. They know what they are doing. Pouting because your expectations are not met is your problem, not the cover departments. I think sometimes authors need to remember that ‘suggested’ means just that and expectations are sometimes a little too high faluting. As always, feel free to comment.
Eternity contest…nah, I don’t have the “My Darling…” line but someone does. Are you playing along? No? You’ve been on another planet? Welcome back. There is still time – just trawl through the sites below and find the line.

Let the pigeons loose....
Shades of Gray – released today at Ellora’s Cave
What was supposed to be a power walk through a cemetery turns out to be the best sex of Temperance Larkin’s life. Is having sex in a cemetery with a stranger a bad thing? Is it odd? Is it bizarre? No more bizarre that being accosted by vampires or finding out the guy who was all tight and hot inside you is a cop. Holy crap! What next?
Asher Marriott is a cop haunted by who he is. A horrible twist of fate condemned him to live his life as a vampire. When Temperance walks into his lonely life he begins to hope that all his efforts to change his fate have not been in vain. Is Temperance the sanctuary he craves?
But an old enemy threatens any peace or happiness Asher and Temperance hope to find. It is going to take the combined power of vampires, a witch and one mortal woman with attitude to kick Madigan Ap Lyr’s ass back to hell where he belongs.
**Click the cover to buy***
An excerpt…
“Do you have sex with just anyone?” They both knew that answer to that.
No never. Temperance shook here head.
“I want you to take off your clothes.” Asher’s voice was soft as his eyes locked on hers. “Please.”
Temperance had never been asked to undress before a man before. Usually it was just ripping clothes off frantically stuff. She actually blushed.
“Are you shy?” Asher was intrigued.
This man made her feel like she had never had real sex before and it was kind of thrilling.
It was one thing to see her naked in the half darkness and yet quite another to see her in full light in all her cellulite glory.
“We need to turn the lights out.”
“Why?” Asher smiled gently at the rosy cheeked woman before him. “I’ve seen you naked and I want to see you naked again. You are a beautiful woman Temperance.”
Oh God, when Asher said it like that Temperance wanted to believe him so badly. No one had ever called her beautiful before. Usually it was just a man’s hands on her breasts, a cock between her legs, a moment of satisfaction and then it was over.
“Are you going to take your clothes off?” Temperance did not want to be the only one naked and vulnerable.
“I will but I want you to trust me.”
“Why?”
“Because I want more than just sex from you.”
“What do you want?” The promise in his eyes made Temperance hotter than she had ever thought possible.
“I want everything you are willing to give me my love.”
Aww…isn’t he nice?
So this arvo it bucketed down with rain which is excellent when you are in the middle of the worst drought ever. I got absolutely saturated on the walk from work to the car – no distance at all. I still went shopping…I know, you were thinking I was made out of spun sugar and the rain would melt me. Nah. Takes more than water to get rid of me. Anyway, it always amuses me when people look at you and state the bleeding obvious like – “You’re wet.” Really? Get out of here, I would never have known. People are fascinating when they state dumb things without thinking aren't they? Is it just because they are amazed easily or are they dumb? For example – a reporter asks someone who just watched their home burn to the ground –“How do you feel?” Pretty frigging obvious isn’t it? It’s not obligatory to think before you speak but you can see how it makes sense….
Okay, I caused some people to have a kniption fit in the supermarket today. Not, surprising for me. What is a kniption fit? It's your basic tantrum. I know, how could someone as sweet as me do that? Eggs. As you may know, I have this random method of hunting and gathering groceries. I went in to buy eggs and bleach. No, not a new recipe – besides I don’t cook unless at gunpoint. Anyway, I only buy eggs that are not ‘cage eggs’. I like to know the chooks (hens) who laid my eggs were out frolicking and doing whatever hens do when they are free. Mind you they probably all sit around smoking and drinking. Anwyay the eggs I wanted - 'free range' were not on the shelves. I was told by staff they were ‘out the back’ and they would put them out later. I politely explained that I wanted some now please. I was asked - Why can’t you have normal eggs like everyone else? The obvious answer is – Duh, I’m neither normal or anyone else. In one of my many jobs, I have worked stocking shelves in a supermarket. It’s hard work. Everything has to be neat, in the right place with the labels showing properly and yes, customers can be a pain in the bum when they want something but that’s what customers do. Anyway, after much carry on, eye rolling and me requesting the 16 year old manager of the section (lord help us) they went and bought out a trolley of eggs just for me. A friend is amazed I always get what I want. She said she could never do what I do to get my own way as she would be too emabrassed. Why? It's way sillier to settle of second best or nothing? Besides, as you know you can only be embarassed if you care what someone thinks.

Ah, I love those chemicals...

I feel so much better today. Work had nothing to do with it as it was, well ,work and by definition it's not a place you do happy things in - unless it's pay day. It was chemicals. What you ask? Am I on drugs? No, reality is way too like a trip for me some times man. No, it’s all to do with intense red streaks applied to my hair. They always make me feel good – not just because I like the way they look but I’m sure the chemicals are good for me. No really. Over the last 2 months due to various life things going on I did not get to go to the hairdresser. I missed my intense red chemicals. I missed the unnatural red look. I feel able to kick arse…okay, I always able to do that but, it’s like Popeye without spinach, some things are just meant to be.
I also got my hair straightened. I was asked to be a model for the apprentice. I don’t mind doing this and they always ask me. I believe everyone needs to learn and if we cannot sit for another 30 minutes to give someone a chance to practice then I reckon we’re pretty lousy people. Okay, and yes, I get a nice discount.
See how altruistic I am to the apprentice but also my bank balance? So I now have glossy, straight, red streaked hair. My hair is generally straight. I say ‘generally’ because it’s usually straight in the front, depending on care factor when I get up and it’s wavy at the back. I know – I’m a freak. Hairdressers always say, “You know if you cut your hair short it would go curly.” It doesn’t. It remains straight in the front and wavy at the back. I am an original. Like many people, who probably won’t admit to it, I did have a perm years and years ago. It was during the whole Grease thing when Sandy became the ‘bad girl’. Who knew you did not have to have curly hair to be bad naturally?
Speaking of curly hair, many years ago when I was traveling the world, I ended up in the US. We had a great time. Aussies generally do when they travel as we are flexible by nature and if the drinks are free we like it. Anyway, a bunch of us were in Pismo Beach – great place
by the way - and we were very tired and emotional – translation – hung over – and we decided due to our respective feral states we would have a hair cut. I fell asleep in the chair due to being tired and emotional and I woke up to find this weird curl thing at the front of my head. The lady, very nice, thought it looked good. It probably did on a kewpie doll. I ain’t no kewpie doll. I think sometimes it’s just better to look feral.
The winner of the random Amarinda competition. Thank you to all who entered. On suck up (that’s a good thing in Aussie speak) factor alone Karen has won the free download of one current release. Karen’s answer – encompassed Bundy rum – a Queensland drink and she invoked the magical biscuit name - it was -
Stress? I don't see any stress! Do you see any stress? However, if I did experience any stress, I think I would like to try Bundaberg Rum Dry & Lime. That sounds so good. I recently read about this Australian rum while I was researching various alcoholic beverages from around the world. Will have to investigate to see if I can have that stuff shipped to my state in the US.
But, a good substitute for a tall, cool Rum Dry & Lime would be a box of Tim Tams. Again, I've never had those but they sound so-o-o good and would be an excellent stress reliever, IMO
Thanks to everyone who attended the chat. Writers always like feedback – good, bad or indifferent.
