….men and their pelvises. Huh? Why? Well, it started out harmlessly enough. I was at work talking on line to friend and talented author Barbara Huffert . Possibly I should have been working at my day job but I wasn’t in the mood. You know what? Really work is to blame for the whole men and pelvis discussion. Anyway, Barbara and I were talking about training and public speaking and the possible fear that some people have when standing up and speaking. I don’t because I have the ability to talk under water with marbles in my mouth…no, I’ve never tried it but I think it is doable.
So, how did the pelvis thing come about? Well I mentioned to B that there used to be this manager I knew that used to lecture staff, in my old job, en masse in the auditorium with his legs apart and his pelvis thrust forward. It’s very dominant body language. He was also an arrogant wanker. We used to stare at his pelvis until he went and stood behind the lectern. He did the same thing every time he lectured us. Now, I have to ask you if you had a bunch of call centre workers, predominantly female who had heard every possible obscene suggestion through their headset when speaking to the public and still they did not blink an eye as they filed their nails, do you think a show of male domination is going to scare that bunch? I think not.
So why do men do it? No, really I want to know. I get that some men may want to attract a woman’s attention but 99% of the time she is not looking there – unless a man is naked then the percentage drops. She is looking at his eyes, his mouth and his hands. A simple look can be more intimidating that a pelvis thrust.
After B went offline due to the whole other side of the world thing happening, I emailed best friend Ethel across town and asked her opinion. Although I can’t repeat what she said because it’s obscene and possibly physically impossible for a man to do – not sure though - she works in an all male office – she did indicate that men were well odd on what they thought women believed. I guess that sums it up.

The buzz of peace....
Ah, the peaceful sound of white noise. You don't think it's peaceful? That hum. That buzz of nothingness? The solitude of blissful silence? I think it's especially good after you have spent a day of dealing with people who act like drunken six year olds where nothing is their fault and if it is it’s because they were busier than everyone else or maybe because someone pushed them or dared them or look sideways at them - some half arsed excuse. My standard response to this is bullshit. I particularly find one individual amusing who continuously emails me work stuff then denies emailing me at all. Yes, of course, someone else went to your computer and sent me the email - and no, resending that same email and trying to change the wording three hours later is not going to work with me. I can tell the time and I know 10:12am is different to 2:37pm no matter what different words you use.
So, I sometimes like the sound of white noise…it's peaceful. It does not lie or try to talk over the top of you. It's bland and boring and sometimes that's just what you need to hear…peaceful nothingness.

Speaking of peace….author Sandra Cox and good mate of the Amarinda blog has a new book out. Its called Power Stones To Go. I love books like this. Why? Because sometimes when you are feeling rotten and think what the hell can I do to sort out the crapaciousness or pukeability of my life, you can pick up this book and look for answers. Better still – not only do you get a book – but – you get the gemstones as well. That's an excellent buy. Yes, I have bought it and I am awaiting its winged arrival at Chez Amarinda. No, it doesn’t fly. So want to sort out your life? Buy the book. Get power. Get stoned up and go.
Power Stones to Go – the blurb…. Click on the cover to buy…
Our love affair with stones and crystals is long abiding. They have been used through the ages for all facets of life from jewelry and decorating to protection and healing.
Certain stones are believed to enhance one’s ability to find true love or to attract prosperity. Others are said to support good health, relaxation or spirituality. Understanding which stones carry the specific energy to support your needs is invaluable knowledge.
Power Stones To Go is a simple guide to using these beautiful gifts from Mother Earth to attract whatever is missing in your life.
Sounds good to me…now where to start…

Courage....
I re-read once more this morning about Nujood Ali who was sold by her father to a man three times her age in Yemen. When no one would help her, she went to court to seek a divorce. This young woman saved herself and now has saved others by her courage. She is now ten years old. She is amazing.
"All I want now is to finish my education," she told the LA Times. "I want to be a lawyer.
"I want to defend oppressed people. I want to be like Shada. I want to be an example for the other girls."
Nujood's trials, and trial, turned the spotlight on to child marriages in Yemen, where the legal ago of consent is 15 but is often overruled by tribal customs and interpretations of Islam.
Several child brides came forward with their cases, some seeking divorces as well.

So, I have to ask myself, and others, why are we whining over the petty trivialities of our lives? Most of us will never understand what it is like to be oppressed, to have no rights or know what it is like to live in that kind of fear. I admire her greatly.
Glamour editor-in-chief Cindy Leive marvelled "How Nujood got the courage to do that at the age of nine, I'll never know".
"Sometimes you feel like some people are born to change the world," Ms Leive said. "When I met her, I thought, 'You're one of them'."

Oh see how she rambles…
Bloody hell…it’s been hard to write today. I’ve been feeling about as romantically inclined as a chair leg. I read back over the characters – who I like – but think – oh can’t you people sort your lives out without me? Why do you get yourselves into this trouble? You pair should know if you mix with vampires then all sorts of stuff happens. Head shake. I know. It’s not rational feeling this way seeing as though I created them but I feel rationality is vastly over rated. I expect I will go back to them shortly and get them out of whatever peril they have wandered in to…characters? What can you do with them?
So, you ask – how to write romance when you feel anything but? Okay – I know you didn’t ask but go with me here…well, I find wearing pjs helps. Huh? Pyjamas? Romantic? Well, no they’re not but I think they help though. How? Because wearing an oversized purple-thousand-year-old-stretched-t-shirt-nightie with a frog on the front saying ‘Kiss me’ is not the essence of romance. I know – surprising huh? And yet that works for me. It’s like anti matter meeting matter – there is a reaction that sparks romance writing. I know – you’re thinking what a load of crap. And it probably is. But one of the most asked interview questions for romance writers is – what is you’re your writing space like? And how do you get in the mood to write erotic romance? Okay – so that’s 2 questions but you get the drift.
Allrighty – so you know about the nightie…the writing space – a 4 setting dining room table full of crap – not just computer and printer – but including - a really ugly brown good fortune money frog (frog sitting on a bunch of Chinese coins) a pack of discs, 3 lotto tickets for tonight, tax receipts that I really need to file, the inhaler I was using when I had a cold last week, one of those small Zen gardens – you know – with the teeny weeny rake that is supposed to relieve stress but in actual fact is a very good place to rest pens – the rake snapped in two ages ago, a cordless phone, an incense burner, car keys, a vase of gerberas, earrings I wore last Wednesday, 6 rings I wear every day, my watch, 2 pairs of specs, notes on scrap paper, two candles I never burn I just like the smell of, a mobile phone re-charger to remind me to re-charge my phone, six pens and a letter from my sponsored child M in Bangladesh. On the whole it’s not very junk filled at the moment. Posted by Unknown at 6:01 pm 0 comments

Friday once more...
Quite knackered…had a day of cleaning up the garden/jungle. I have hacked, slashed, mowed and backfilled. I need a drink. A big one….maybe followed by another. For all those similarly knackered and for the memory of those gone but never forgotten, I raise my glass to you. Life huh? It just hits you when you least expect it.
Be well, be safe, attempt goodness but don’t beat yourself up over it because there’s a lot to be said for being bad.

Thursday ponderings...
So it was my birthday today. I say was because in Australia it’s all over now. I’m not big on birthdays – it has nothing to do with age. I’m 45. I am fabulous and I get more fabulouser… okay, maybe that’s not a word – maybe it should be. I just don’t get why adults celebrate birthdays. As a kid it was a big deal but now? What’s that about? It’s just another day.
Anyway, I went grocery shopping and while I was waiting for the bank to open so I could deposit a US cheque – by the way – just loving the exchange rate at the moment - there was this young bloke, maybe early twenties, who was standing with a clipboard and watching people. He looked like an anime character. He was thin, tall and sort of had this spiky hair that I suppose was hot or mod or sick or maybe pukeable – whatever the latest term is – okay – I know pukeable is my made up word but I am doing my best to get it out there into everyday use…so…where was I…pukeable, anime, bank – ah yes – the bloke…so me, being me, said who are you targeting? No one just stands with a clipboard in a busy shopping centre without some reason be it counting the number of people with red hair or body odour or wearing silly hats – speaking of hats what’s the deal with wearing baseball caps back to front? Yes – I can actually see why baseball players do. They need to see the ball and to swing – and my father told me the men who collected garbage when he was a kid in the early 40’s used to in order to stop rubbish sliding down the back of their clothes – but why do people do it today? It strikes me as very nerd-like…
‘Lastly – I heard on the news that the best bums – butts, arses or asses if you will – are in Brazil and France. Well, that’s important isn’t it? I will sleep better knowing that – and it takes the pressure off all other countries because now we can let are arses go to rack and ruin as we have nothing to uphold…

Topaz me...
I don’t understand….I just heard on the radio that California has re-voted to outlaw gay marriages. Now, I don’t care it you are black, white or purple, who you worship or who you love….why should anyone else tell someone they can or cannot get married? What that hell is that about? Who decreed you could only commit to someone if you were straight? No, I’m not gay. I’m a committed single – we’re whole other group of troublesome ‘non conformists’ who actually don’t want to get married…we’re the worst as we are really letting the side down. So if you can tell me why this ‘law’ makes sense – then please do.
Okay - I am off out west this weekend. So, never one to leave you blogless, author and good mate Regina Carlysle has a new release just out from Ellora’s Cave. Now I know you are going to want to buy this one. Why? Other than I am amazingly correct? It’s hot and it’s all about two men pleasuring one women…need I say more? Click here on the cover to buy.

The blurb
When rancher, Cash Carter gets sexy Latina, Graciela Fuentes back in his bed, he vows to keep her there. Whether it’s through the lure of hotter than hell sex or the intrigue to be found in an ancient topaz-studded dagger, he won’t let her go again. His body burns for hers but once she touches the handle of the dagger and Miguel de Castillo, a man from another time, manifests before them, Cash realizes Gracie’s soul may belong to another.
Miguel longs for a reunion with his long-dead bride and when he finds her soul residing in the body of the very modern Gracie, he’ll do anything to get her back. It becomes a race against time as Gracie gives her body to both men in order to reunite the lost lovers, hoping against hope she doesn’t lose her life or her love in the process.
The excerpt….warning hot.
Cash Carter leaned against the frame of the open barn door and watched Graciela Fuentes barrel down the dirt road leading to the Classic Cash Ranch. She had a new car. A sassy little roadster that reminded him of her, sleek but rounded in all the right places. A rooster tail of dust shot out from behind the vehicle as it rocketed down the road. On either side of the snappy little car, his land stretched out like a rugged Texas jewel in the waning autumn sunlight.
She was home.
Thank god. That was all that mattered.
The weeks since he’d last seen her fell away and his cock hardened behind the well-worn fly of his jeans. Her memory rose up, hot and fluid, in his mind and as his mouth went dry, he swore he could still feel the taste of her nipple on his tongue. It was a rich memory that he’d never been able to shake, even after she left for college and then landed a job as a museum curator in Houston. They’d been lovers for those years, but time and distance was his enemy. He was damn sick of only having scarce visits to her apartment in Houston and her trips to central Texas were so seldom, he was left aching.
When he’d found the dagger two days ago, she was the only person he’d called. It was a deal that worked for him. He’d have answers and her all at the same time. Have her he would, too. The connection between them had always been electrifying and the month that had passed since he’d last had her hadn’t changed a damn thing about that.
Cash shifted his stance and walked further into the yard to meet her. His heart thumped hard in his chest as he waited and remembered. Lust crawled through his belly and the urge to fuck her sweet pussy seeped through his mind like an oft remembered dream. If circumstances hadn’t intervened a couple of days ago, he’d pretty much decided to head down to Houston and haul her sexy, Latina ass back where she belonged. For good.
Maybe it was the time of year that made him hard for her. Made him ache for her. The leaves on the trees had turned a smoldering gold that exactly matched her eyes. The simmering reds mingled among the golden leaves reminded him of her lush lips and the way they’d always taken his with a hunger unequaled in his experience.
Bottom line was the woman was so fucking hot she burned him to ash with every touch. She was a craving in his system and he was a happy addict.
When the source of his raging addiction, stopped her car not twenty yards from where he stood, he stiffened, unsure of her greeting, as she stepped from the little car and gave him a look, cocked a winged black brow and sent him a sexy smile. Odd that he noticed that seductive smirk since he could barely drag his gaze from the long length of leg she bared beneath the miniscule black skirt. A strip of her belly flashed from below her shorter-than-hell red tee. The woman was sex on a stick and his cock pulsed in reaction, grew in dimension and he had the crazy desire to lick her from the tips of her cute little toes to her mouth, stopping to savor every point in between.
“Hey, sweet thing,” he drawled.
Her smile widened as she sent her gaze zipping down then up the length of his body. Impossibly his erection pulsed stronger as the need to fuck her silly grew by immense proportions.
“Hola, querido. Miss me?”
“Every damn day.” Cash held out his arms and watched her go still. A flicker of intensity made her golden eyes go dark. He smiled, knowing he had her right where he wanted her. She’d missed him, too. “Come ‘ere, darlin’. If I don’t touch you right now, I swear I’m gonna die.”
And just like, that the darkness left her eyes and her smile widened as she laughed and raced headlong into his arms.
'Back Sunday – be good, be safe or be fast and have an alibi…or email me and I’ll make up one for you.

Tuesday stuff...
Aussies are mad gamblers. It is said we will bet on ‘two flies crawling up a wall.’ We like a risk and to ‘have a go.’ There is a story that an English actor (Derek Nimmo) told years ago. He said he was in Australia in the never-never – the outback – and he was asked to ride a camel in a race. He fell off and was very embarrassed. He said he was surprised though when he got up and everyone cheered. Why? Because he had a go. Aussies admire that more than anything. I think we retain a lot of the convict spirit – take a chance and see what you get away with.
I have to say I am so happy the US elections are almost over. The whole rock star extravaganza of it all has worn thin. Pick A or B – either is interchangeable – and let’s get on and fix up all the stuff ups – and no, it’s no longer a matter of your lot or my lot sorting themselves out individually. We are so linked in the madness of greed that we have to work together.
That’s it - I feel a bit like the panda above. I have developed a nice little, annoying cough that is driving me and everyone else mad. Don’t you love those? So I am going to slump on the lounge with my meds and contemplate my place in the world, man’s inhumanity to man and should I go grocery shopping Wednesday or Thursday after work.

I owe...I owe...
…it’s off to work I go. Back at work. Not a lot to tell you. I turned up, heard the new gossip and did what I had to and went home. I think that sums up work for most people. It’s all about the money, baby.
That’s it – I could lie and tell you some fantastic thing happened but that would be sheer fabrication and I would never do that….much.
So – tomorrow – being another day – I expect something amazing will happen - if not I will fabricate. Good to hedge your bets…speaking of that – tomorrow is the Melbourne Cup. What is it? It’s a horse race that literally stops Australia. We are glued to the television set to watch it and everyone becomes a mug punter and horse expert for the day. There are usually mass sickies (sick leave) and no one works after lunch. It’s actually a good day to be at work. My pick for tomorrow? I am going to put money each way on a horse called Mad Rush. Why? I just like the name. Will let you know how I go.

Just so wrong....
A 13-year-old girl who said she had been raped was stoned to death in Somalia after being accused of adultery by Islamic militants, a human rights group says.
Dozens of men stoned Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow to death October 27 in a stadium packed with 1,000 spectators in the southern port city of Kismayo, Amnesty International and Somali media reported, citing witnesses. The Islamic militia in charge of Kismayo had accused her of adultery after she reported that three men had raped her, the rights group said.

This is beyond sad and all the petty considerations that so consume our own world seem just that. All this was done in the name of someone’s skewed interpretation of religion. It’s just so wrong and so sad and it makes me as mad as hell that women in some countries are treated like they are nothing…that their lives are forfeit because of gender based inequality…and I feel useless because I have no idea how to help.

Never talk about religion or politics…
Sarah Palin…I’m an Aussie but I’ll give my two cents on her – take or leave it. Regina – hold onto your handbag girl. She doesn’t bother me - and I am a socialist and yes, I am an Aussie who does not vote in the US elections. But what you do there affects Australia and the world. Like most elections, the candidates all sound the same to me regardless of party. Promises are made, arses kissed and smiles bestowed in the best Hollywood fashion. Every candidate gives the “defining speech of the lives” that a speechwriter has agonized over a scotch bottle on. It’s no bloody different in Australia. People will vehemently hate a candidate, while others could not give a rat’s arse. They were just turning up on polling day because they knew there would be a sausage sizzle and lamingtons for sale.
Anyway, back to Sarah Palin. Regardless of her politics, she interests me. How? The fact that she is in the position she is in. How did she get there? And no, I don’t support any of her ideas about gays or abortion or guns or the war in Iraq. That’s too redneck for me. But step away from the politics for a moment and ponder how a relatively unknown person – a woman – managed to get herself in the position of being a VP candidate. As much as I admire the strength of Hillary Clinton, even she could not get the VP nomination. So how did this chick from Alaska get it? Doesn’t that fascinate you? It does me. She is on the threshold of possible great power. How did she do it? Was it something she knew that she exploited to get to the top? Did she talk her way into it? Or did she use rat cunning to get there?
While you may hate the ideology of this woman, I admire what it must have taken – and we’ll probably never know until years later when memoirs are written – to get to where she is. It also reinforces to me that women can do anything. Hate her, love her or think she is a dipstick – that does not matter. She got to a position of power that no other woman has and I have to admire whatever it was that got her there.

Amazing Grace....
A couple of weeks ago I ended up in the emergency room at the local hospital. I feel okay now. However I decided it was a good idea to have the problem that sent me there looked at more in-depth. So I agreed with the ER docs that I needed a referral to a specialist. A day or so later after I was out of my morphine hangover I rang the specialist who was based in a public hospital. They said ‘we’ll get back to you’. Today I got a later saying ‘you have been referred on to be referred to the specialist to see if he wants to see you.’ Uh huh…
I’m not sure what it is like in other countries. I expect it is the same - but in Australia the public hospital system is groaning under the pressure of sick people. To get into a public hospital unless you are an emergency is pretty damn hard. I wasn’t really surprised by the ‘hurry up and wait letter.’ So I will wander off to fairy floss (my pixie like new age doctor) next week and get a referral to a private hospital. Unlike some countries, medical insurance is not built into our wages. We are paid well and if you want private medical you buy it yourself. I have it. I will use it. I will get in for treatment faster than those who don’t. No, it’s not about being lucky as I had to pay for it. I earned it. It’s about governments wasting money on frigging stupid things like salary rises for politicians, high priced lunches for anyone’s arse they want to kiss, money wasted on useless crap like huge black public (or maybe pubic) sculptures that no one likes or understands, its about significant money given as grants to time wasters who want to write about their big left toe because ‘it’s art man’, it’s about playing for the British frigging royal family when they haul their blue blooded arses down under for a holiday, it’s about politicians jetting all over the world to study the surface of roads used by the North Eastern Mongolian tribesman and how that relates to Upper Kumbucca West in the outback, it’s about wanker parliamentarians who whine that their food in the Parliament House dining room (which is free to them) must be better than the normal Aussie’s, it’s about politicians jetting in to watch a football grand finals when they could have stayed at home and watched it on TV like everyone else….and I could go on and on.
The point is, like many countries, Australia has politicians and people in public service who should not be crossing the road by themselves let alone running a country. I don’t begrudge paying for health insurance. That’s my choice and it’s the way it is. I begrudge the waste of my tax payer dollars spent on crap when there are people in pain or dying because the thousands - millions – of dollars are wasted on things like providing what politicians consider a sub standard lunch each day that could have been spent putting people into the hospital system. Make a bloody sandwich at home and take it to work like everyone else does. I believe George Orwell, in Animal Farm, summed it up nicely -
"ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL, BUT SOME ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS" -George Orwell, Animal Farm, Ch. 10

To suck or not to suck?
That is the question. What am I talking about? Vampires - and specifically writing about them. I had a hard time writing my first vampire novel, Shades of Gray, because I had a specific idea how I wanted my vamps to be. They were not the stereotypical bloodsuckers that most people know and love. Some of my vamps crave blood – some don’t. Some look to their true love to sustain them through the cravings and to make them better men.
I actually expected Shades of Gray to fall on its arse because its hard writing for a specific genre, knowing the fans of the genre are very picky about their vampires. I understand that - and so they should be. I was gobsmacked when Shades of Gray did very well. The reason? I was told by many readers and reviewers that my vamps were unique - quirky - odd. I like odd and quirky works for me. This inspired me to write Marlow's Curse - the follow on. It also did well. So, after requests for more vamps, I am once again in the middle of writing about vampires. I like this new lot – they are also different from the last – and yes, Temperance makes an appearance, along with Asher and Marlow. Will anyone like them? Who knows? That’s the risk when it comes to writing. I like risk. It keeps you on your toes and your mind active. I believe in the catch cry I use on my emails and on the blog - Go ahead: Live with abandon. Be outrageous at any age. What are you saving your best self for? Take a punt - have a go. What is the worst that can happen?
So, when people ask me what I did on the weekend I say vampire sex. I can tell you that I get a lot of odd looks from strangers. Those who know me just nod and smile and say ‘that’s nice.' I’d like to meet a vampire and ask him some questions. Do I believe they exist? Sure – why not?
That’s it – Monday was shockingly blech, blah and uh-huh. No doubt something fascinating will happen tomorrow.

Sex, arses and stars…
Love thy neighbor - and if he happens to be tall, debonair and devastating, it will be that much easier --Mae West
Sex, sex, sex – what’s it all about? I don’t know. I have written that much of it today that I can’t think straight and my arse is numb. I set myself this goal and I made it -but bloody hell my brain is fried. I swear if George Clooney – delicious man that he is – knocked on my door right now I would say no, thank you George. I am too tired for either you or sex but you can finish painting the steps for me please, there’s a good man. Thankfully tomorrow, being a work day, I don’t have to think or even use my arse for that matter – there you go – a bright side. Monday equals arse resting day. Did I tell you I was in the men’s bathroom at work on Friday? Why? There was a very good reason and I think I’ll save it for another blog because I will be going back in there.
News – there is none unless you want to agonize with those wankers in Washington on how they are going to save the world now that it’s totally stuffed due to all the things they allowed to happen to it because greed is good and stupidity seems to be eternal. I did get another book contract - I forgot about that - and Wayne the possum – aka – The Scarlet Pimpernel has finally been caught. Ha! Evasive, little bastard. And I have this stinky spray that deters possums – and me now that I have taken a whiff of it. Yes, as the world turns so are the days of our lives…
If you are a Scorpio like me – Your Week Ahead: There are more books than you could ever hope to read in a lifetime. And more websites than you could ever visit, let alone read. What does this tell us? That there's a whole load of irrelevant information in this world. We are surrounded by the stuff, but we really don't have to worry about whether we have absorbed or understood it. You are now keenly aware that there's something you don't know. That's healthy. It means, when you make your next big discovery, you won't be too proud to embrace the new-found knowledge. You know most of what you need to know. The rest you'll soon find out.

Huh? Yes, please add more cryptic crap into my life. Have a pleasant Sunday – wishing you much sex and no numb arse. I have also provided a nice picture of male bottoms for your gratification. I can do no more...

Yeah...whatever...
Again, I was listening to the radio before work. I like to know what is happening in the world. The news came on and it reported on how this silver spoon politician had admitted that he had smoked pot in his youth. Firstly, who cares? And secondly, he was only saying it now it to come across as more likeable. How? Well he is a gazillionaire and the vast majority of Aussies aren’t and he had a problem with being seen as not being one of the people. So he admitted to smoking pot in that aren’t-I-a-jolly-good-fellow-and-one-of-you-socio-economically-challenged-people. Aussies aren’t dumb and no one bought it. So why did he even bother trying to say it? Well because maybe there is this small group of people who will actually believe it and he’ll feed off them.
So that got me thinking about everyone having two faces. We all have ‘em – no, I’m sure you don’t – I am speaking of myself and others most likely…anyway, I believe many people will show whatever face they can to get what they want and we all want stuff out of life. Some may suck up and say sweet things in someone’s ear about how wonderful they are, others will manipulate behind the scenes, while others will have so many faces on at one time that they will confuse the crap out of people and get stuff that way. So one could argue that this politician was actually just being a normal human being and going for what he wanted. Others could argue that politicians are from the planet Zork and don’t have a clue. I have heard Zork is nice this time of year. Maybe we get a busload of pollies and send them back and then we can set about sorting out the frigging mess they have made of everything.
Yeah, we’re all human and will constantly stuff things up - but if you’re going to make some vague attempt to lead people, telling us you were one of the boys and smoked dope, its not going to inspire us to follow you. Use some of your gazillions to help sort out health, transport and economic issues or piss off back to you mansion and leave us in peace.

Blah day…

I cannot begin to describe how blah today has been. It culminated in me noticing a dead blue tongue under the front stairs as I came home. As I looked down on the lizard, my house keys fell from my hand, passed the steps and landed on the dead lizard, spearing the flesh and making maggots spill out onto my keys...oh yeah...some days are diamonds...
At least I don't have to deal with Pigzilla. Click here.

The writing thing....

So, I’ve been writing about vampires. Due to the great response from Shades of Gray and Marlow’s Curse, I am in the midst of another vamp book – adding the characters from those 2 books as secondary guests who wander into the latest chaos I have inflicted on my home town of Brisbane. Of course the thing is with books you can write ‘em but there is absolutely no promises that they will ever get published regardless how your last books went. It’s not like the saying of build it and they will come. It’s more like write it and hope someone does not think it sucks. I think writers forget that. I think we become complacent and make assumptions and - shock horror – start to believe our own publicity. No, of course I don't mean you or me....probably I mean everyone else....

Rate me...

So, I got an email this morning about Male Me doing okay and being rated in a top ten somewhere. That's nice. I appreciate the support from readers and it’s always good to hear you don’t suck completely at something. However, I’m not big on ratings in anything be it writing or life. Why? Because I have never believe in rating people on a scale of one to ten. To me, it’s wrong. It’s the old apples and oranges thing. You can’t compare people, personalties and you never, ever know what brought somewhere to where they are in their life and how can you measure one person’s struggle against another? You can’t.
The only time I cared about ratings was when I desperately wanted out of Promptel, code word for crap phone company, and I wanted a redundancy (retrenchment package). They rated you on a scale a how good an employee you were. The worse you were the more likely you would be to be retrenched. Yes, correct, I went out of my way to be an utter pain in the arse. I even convinced my manager, let’s call him Charlie, to make me sound terrible. I pointed out to him that it actually worked in his favour if I sucked as an employee. How? Because he wanted a redundancy too and if it looked like he could not control his staff then the more likely he was to go as well. Oh yeah – we got out. See where teamwork can get you?
So thank you to everyone who bought Male Me. That you did means more to me than a number on a scale of one to ten.
Survival….changing subjects as I do….we have a couple of magpies swooping people near work. They have nests in nearby trees and they are instinctively protecting their young. I have to admire this pair of maggies as I work in a heavily industrial area with trucks rocketing past, people wearing fluoro safety outfits and continuous motion all around and yet this pair continue to dive bomb people, cars and trucks. They never stop. To me that’s true survival at any cost.
And don’t forget – today September 19th is International Talk like a Pirate day…shiver me timbers.
Taking the Fall – released October 10th at Resplendence Publishing
Jontie Rhodes holds the fate of the future in her hands. The only problem is she doesn't know it. When she attends a friend’s wedding she has one thought in mind. She needs a man. It has been so long since anyone has touched her in passion.
Two men want Jontie. An angel and a demon both know she has a decision to make that can affect the lives of many. They each have a plan to subtly watch her and influence her to suit their own purposes. However what starts out as manipulation soon turns into love.
Jontie is caught between heaven and hell and she is enjoying every hot, sexy moment of it.
“What is it you want, angel?” The tall man with the ash blond pony tail looked at him, not surprised to see him.
“She is not for you, James.” The angel’s tone was most adamant. “You are a demon. She is too pure for you.”
“It is not for you to tell me anything, Saint Gilbert of the anally righteous. We both know I am beyond your limited powers. If I want her, I will have her.”
Gilbert’s hands curled into fists. “You cannot always take what you want.”
“And yet you are here for the same reason as me.” James assessed him with cynical amusement. “You plan to manipulate her as well. You are no better than me, angel.”
“I do not have to justify myself to you, hellhound.”
James threw back his head and laughed. “Is that the best you can do? I have been called much worse.” His eyes locked once more on the woman. “She is fascinating isn’t she?”
“Yes, most beautiful.” Gilbert swallowed hard, trying to focus on keeping control.
James reached out and snagged a glass of white wine from a waiter passing by. “And she does not have a clue of her destiny.”
“I cannot allow you to use that against her.”
“Must you angels always assume those from hell are after something?”
“Historical evidence proves that your brethren only want what is best for them.”
“As do you holier-than-thou types.” James downed his glass in two long swallows. “You cannot tell me that who she is does not interest you, Saint Gilbert.” He reached over and grabbed two more glasses, offering one to the angel at his side.
Gilbert declined his offer. “She is why I am here.”
“You knew I was coming for her.”
“Yes.” That was a fact and they both knew it. They were enemies who would do whatever they had to in order to get their own way.

Never discuss politics or religion…
An election is coming. Universal peace is declared and the foxes have a sincere interest in prolonging the lives of the poultry. ~T.S. Eliot
I have been watching the hoop-la and Hollywood hype of US politics. Scary stuff. You have on one hand a bunch of right wing we-will-save-you-through-God-and-guns candidates compared to a rock star who is reminiscent of JFK and Camelot. The thing is whoever gets elected in the US effects the world. To my mind it’s not looking good either way but then compare that to Aussie politics - the opposition party, the Liberals – who are anything but - got knocked out of power last year because they lost the plot and were so out of touch with everyday Aussies, are electing a new leader. I have to say who cares? Neither contender is the average Joe Blow that has had to struggle in life. They’re silver spooners. Then look at Kevin, our Labor PM – working class boy makes good. It’s the dream isn’t it? So far he has done okay – not fabulous – but okay. So do we want okay people or do we want razzle dazzle running the world? Either way, we take a huge chance.
Like a lot of people I studied poli-sci at Uni. It’s interesting why people vote as they do and how the voters can be swayed by words and promises and glitz. It’s a damn shame most of them will never come to fruition or if they do you have to pay through the nose for them with your taxes. Yep, I reckon it’s true – we elect who we deserve. We strive for more in out own life so why not globally? The whiz bang hype of US elections makes me wonder how whiz bang the world will be feeling this time next year. Those who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being governed by those who are dumber. ~Plato

Save me from Mondays......
Monday – pukeable, boring, snoring and thankfully over. Do we wish our lives away? Not me, I always want something better and Monday isn’t it.
That’s it…the day was so pukeable I have nothing to tell you. I am off to write about vampires….and yes for those who asked for it, Temperance and the gang make a return. No idea what I’m talking about? Few people do. However, click on the cover and take a squiz. ‘Course the thing is just because you write it doesn’t mean a publisher will want it. I think if you believe that with every submission you will get a contract then you need to re-think the whole writing deal. That's insane. Probably only JK Rowling doesn’t get knock backs… but I bet she had ‘em. That which does not kill me makes me strong or so insane that I no longer care....is that how the quote goes? Whatever....
Life is intrinsically, well, boring and dangerous at the same time. At any given moment the floor may open up. Of course, it almost never does; that's what makes it so boring.” -- Edward Gorey quotes
