Less than Noble...

So, I found out this morning, through various emails, that Jill Noble, the head of Noble Romance Publishing has quit the company. Why? Depends who you talk to. The cut and pasted emails from the Noble Romance authors loop – sent to me via email by ‘Anon’ – I’m not allowed on the loop as I’m naughty and have a habit of asking hard questions - indicated that Jill jumped ship because the owner, who I call the Smoking Man, who Jill mentions in the emails - is the reason for her quitting. Yes, we all thought she was in charge. Hmmm…Now, I tend to think this all sounds like a bad plot for a romance book. It’s not me. It’s him. This is the same woman who promised to pay me and others a gazillion times. Hmmm again.

Now, many authors have tried to get sense or some notification from those who are left at Noble Romance Publishing but whoever is left is not answering and also not making any effort to pay authors. What this tells me is if you are thinking subbing there give it a miss. If NRP cannot have the professionalism to answer their authors then that indicates big trouble. It also indicates a possible class action by authors.

Me? I emailed the Smoking Man and advised I would be taking back what’s mine if no answer or money by Friday.

You may be a very talented Author but apparently you are not very educated on law. Be careful what you say via the web, threats, slander ext...might just turn out to be a class action in the opposite direction.

Defamation—also called calumny, vilification, traducement, slander (for transitory statements), and libel (for written, broadcast, or otherwise published words)—is the communication of a statement that makes a claim, expressly stated or implied to be factual, that may give an individual, business, product, group, government, or nation a negative image. Quote "What this tells me is if you are thinking subbing there give it a miss. If NRP cannot have the professionalism to answer their authors then that indicates big trouble. It also indicates a possible class action by authors."

Thought I'd pop in with the dictionary definitions:

def·a·ma·tion   [def-uh-mey-shuhn]
the act of defaming; false or unjustified injury of the good reputation of another, as by slander or libel.

li·bel   [lahy-buhl] noun, verb, li·beled, li·bel·ing or ( especially British ) li·belled, li·bel·ling.
Law .
defamation by written or printed words, pictures, or in any form other than by spoken words or gestures.
the act or crime of publishing it.
a formal written declaration or statement, as one containing the allegations of a plaintiff or the grounds of a charge.
anything that is defamatory or that maliciously or damagingly misrepresents.

slan·der   [slan-der] Show IPA
defamation; calumny: rumors full of slander.
a malicious, false, and defamatory statement or report: a slander against his good name.
Law . defamation by oral utterance rather than by writing, pictures, etc.

It all relates to FALSE statements, and I haven't seen any false statements, except when Anon's mother called Noble's authors Trash, in public, on Facebook and Twitter.

No one is making FALSE statements. No one is misrepresenting the situation.

Just had to stop by Amarinda. Best.

Thanks mate...and another definite for our mate Anonymous...

a·non·y·mous (a-nn-ms)
1. Having an unknown name:
2. Having an unknown or withheld authorship or agency:
3. Having no distinctive character or recognition factor

I think third point sums up Anonymous or Anom the best - no distinctive character.

I'm open to rebuttal on this Anom.

Oh Lord. Sometimes those who are anonymous are so because they know otherwise people would laugh in their faces at their idiocy.

Well, she, her purse and her pet hamster are welcome back to this blog any time.

Verra true, Lori.

Sadly, the net has become a battleground. Especially in situations like this.

Tis why I took the psuedo Anon76 years ago and have stood by it ever since. I might not post my real name, but, good or bad in the eyes of the beholder, I stand by my convictions.

That said, you all are being hosed.

Truth is the unanswerable defense against an accusation of slander. Given the number of authors involved - not to mention the screencaps - anonymous threats are almost comical.

I like your insight, Amarinda! And yes, all of the points stated concerning this situation are facts. Besides, why should she worry?
She doesn't work there anymore. The big dog broke the chain and left the yard. Did it not think the cats would get together and compare notes? Doesn't sound like someone planned the future too well.
