…I don’t get it. While it’s nice to be nominated for something to do with a book you have written, why do some authors feel the need to run around encouraging those they know or sort of know to vote for them to win whatever they have been nominated for – best romance, cover etc - especially when some of these writers you never hear from until they want something like a vote. Yes, how terrible of me to suggest some people are only out for themselves – and of course I’m not talking about any writer that may be reading this…it’s probably other writers I am talking about…
Here’s the thing – everyone I have ever met is after whatever they can get in life. I am. That’s human nature. That’s ambition. If you say you’re not then you may want to re-think that ‘cause I bet there is something you want that you will work hard to get. That’s normal. What I don’t understand is if you are a writer – you generally have readers. Here’s a wild thought – what about letting readers decide who is best? Why not leave it to their judgement as to whether your story struck a chord with them and whether they want to vote for you? Isn’t that a better way to win best whatever book for 2008? Doesn’t it mean more that people you have not badgered voted for you? And how many badger-ees will actually vote just to shut you up? Does anyone want to win an award like that? And how many of them will think ‘Stuff you, ya badgering cow, I’m not voting for you ever.’
Yes, like a lot of authors I get nominated for things. And no, I don’t badger anyone to vote for me. I left high school a long time. Will this blog piss off some writers? More than likely -but hey I’ll always go ahead and give an opinion and opinions only hurt if you let them. Feel free as always to email me – Amarinda_jones@yahoo.com.au.
